Enter the URL of your website in the search bar, and click on the start button.

After complete scanning, The XML file will generate.

Click on the download option and download the XML file.

Finally, go to your website’s c panel and upload the XML file into the root folder, where the other index.html file locates.

Note: An XML file has a limited URL and size. Sometimes, multiple XML files are generated and uploaded in the website’s root folder as multiple sitemap files. All XML files are also collectively uploaded as index sitemap files.

How sitemap submitted in the search console?

Now XML sitemap has been generated and added to the website. The next step will access Google’s crawler to the XML sitemap file. For this purpose, a sitemap will be submitted to the Google search console.

Go to the search console and select your property.

Click on “sitemap” under the index option.

Step 3

Add your sitemap address/URL in the bar and click on the submit option.

When you develop and design an HTML sitemap web page, then upload it in the root directory of your site. On this webpage, all links are active using the anchor link. It is also accessed like an XML sitemap. If the Yoast SEO plugin is installed on your website, then html sitemaps generated automatically.

How to use google search console sitemap report?

  • Go to the search console.
  • Click on sitemap and search for the report of sitemap.

The following information about each sitemap will appear:

  1. URL of sitemap.
  2. Sitemap’s type like TXT, XML, or RSS, etc.
  3. Timing of the last submission
  4. The date when last time google crawled it.
  5. Updates about crawling like successful crawl has a problem, couldn’t fetch or many others.
  6. Total NO of URLs in a sitemap.

Click the icon that appears next to the successful sitemap. It will open the index coverage report of a specific sitemap. The sitemap appears partially red when it has any issue. In case of an error in the sitemap, try to explore it in detail and then solve it by getting help from the Google Search Console help center.
